This week I have had no time to be lonely! I have been meeting with doula clients, taken 2 sets of kids during the days, had a sick kid of my own at home, and just been plain ol' tired.
Over the past week we have also been at the bedside of a man who has been like a grandpa to us and our kids. He is a man who we met several years ago. His wife became very ill and he asked the nurses at the hospital to find him a "good Pentecostal minister"! So they called Kenny. And that is how we met. Kenny did the funeral for Mary, and Vaughn started coming to our church. He formed a special bond with our kids and all the people at the church. After several years he could no longer hear well enough to come to our church (we did not use microphones). And so, we saw him less often in the last 2 years. However, we knew we'd see him every November as we honoured him at the Remembrance Day parade as he marched along with the other WWII vets.
Last week Vaughn became ill and took a turn for the worse. Kenny went almost daily to his bedside to pray, sing and read scriptures. The boys and I also went on a few occasions as well. The last time we saw him (when he was still alert enough to talk) he sang with us, hugged the kids, and said, "You made my day by coming here"! It was a great last memory of him.
Vaughn died on Monday, March 10 in the early morning. Kenny managed to see him just hours before he passed away. It was really special. Somehow Vaughn was able to wake up, see Kenny and give him a huge grin! Then he opened his arms and embraced Kenny one last time. Kenny reminded Vaughn about the home waiting for him in heaven and that it was an exciting time for him. Those words must have somehow given Vaughn the release he needed. He passed away just hours later.
Tomorrow is the funeral and Kenny will be officiating. We are thankful that Vaughn is once again with his wife and no longer suffering here. He was always such a strong man both physically and mentally and so I am glad he did not have to spend months or years becoming weaker. However, we will miss his smile, his laugh, his hugs and his faith!
Vaughn with Ethan several years ago. Ethan used to run up to Vaughn every day at church and Vaughn would hold Ethan for the whole church service!
Poor Brayden had an ear infection this week as well as the flu and pink eye! One night of intense ear pain he finally fell asleep on Kenny.
My mom and dad came one evening to meet Harry. Ethan was so excited!

I am so sorry for you loss but I am happy to that Vaughn is resting with Jesus now and no longer in pain. No fun when your kids are sick. Hope you guys are all healthy now. Hope the coming weeks get better for you....
Hi Charlene, sorry to hear about your friend. What a blessing to all of you and him that you could be such good friends to him after his wife died. I'm sure it was a great blessing to him to see you all so close to his death and for Kenny to be with him shortly before he died.
Sounds like things have been sooo nutty for you around there. How do you do it. Poor Brayden, so much for one little boy to handle. I hope everyone is feeling well. Enjoy your time at Silverstar.
